Why rent on Elbow Cay?

Elbow Cay has a unique character that captures your soul, as evidenced by the incredibly high number of repeat visitors and second homeowners. Surrounded by the pristine Sea of Abaco and Atlantic Ocean, it is a water lover's paradise - unspoiled, uncrowded, and always beckoning. What you will NOT find - cruise ships, large hotels, chains stores, or industry of any kind. Unlike some of the more populous areas of the Bahamas, locals are friendly and welcoming. The island offers a very personal and intimate experience, yet remains surprisingly easy to visit, with an international airport about 45' away by ferry and taxi, and waters easily navigated by boats of all sizes.

Why rent Dunwanderin

Dunwanderin, built by a ship's captain in the late 1800s, has been the home of many families who were original settlers of the area. The cottage offers heart and soul and everything important to a modern-day visitor. Fully renovated a few years ago and recently extensively updated with new furnishings, fixtures, appliances, and art, one can enjoy the ambiance of history with all desirable modern amenities.

Located in the heart of the settlement, Dunwanderin is within easy walking distance of the ocean with a clean sand beach and great snorkeling, the harbour, pickleball courts, stores and the ferry/public docks. Vehicles are restricted in town and the small one-way sidewalk/roads are uniquely pedestrian-friendly, which greatly enhances the peacefulness of town. (Golf cart parking and rides to the southern parts of the island are a very pleasant 5-minute stroll away.)

Across the harbour, which is readily accessible by an on-call ferry, is the world-famous lighthouse, additional shops, and a full-service marina with an outstanding bar, restaurant, and pool.

Who's in charge?

Dunwanderin has very active owners who check email regularly, respond quickly, and are always ready to assist. They visit the island frequently, including several months during the winter, and take great pride in maintaining the house at a high level. The on-island rental agency through which all rentals are handled, Elbow Cay Properties, is very experienced, very professional, and is an important on-island contact. Their office is right next door!
